Ayyoub Bouaddi

At just 18 years old, Ayyoub Bouaddi delivered one of the most poised midfield performances of the entire 2026 FIFA World Cup — and he did it against five-time champions Brazil.

Born on October 2, 2007, in Senlis, France, Bouaddi is the son of Moroccan parents who instilled in him a deep connection to his heritage. He began playing football at age five in nearby Creil, and despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco, chose to join Lille's academy in 2021 at just 13 years old. On October 5, 2023, he made his senior debut for Lille in the UEFA Europa Conference League at 16 years and 3 days old, becoming the youngest player ever to appear in a European club competition match.

Despite representing France at every youth level from U16 through U21, Bouaddi made the decision — just over a month before the World Cup — to commit his senior international future to Morocco, the country of his parents. It would prove to be perfect timing. He made his FIFA World Cup debut against Brazil, controlling the midfield with composure that belied his age. His performance was so impressive that Liverpool, Arsenal, PSG, Chelsea and Bayern Munich were all reported to be monitoring the teenager afterward.

In the 48 hours following his standout display, Bouaddi's Instagram following exploded from 135,000 to over 1.1 million — a jump of roughly 700,000 in just two days. For a defensive midfielder not known for flashy stats, it was a remarkable showing of how a single World Cup performance can transform a career overnight.

With Morocco's Atlas Lions — semi-finalists in Qatar 2022 — still to face Scotland and Haiti in Group C, Bouaddi's star is only just beginning to rise.
