About This Venue
Estadio Azteca
Estadio Azteca is the most legendary venue in World Cup history. Opened in 1966, it is the only stadium on Earth to host matches at three FIFA World Cups. Both the 1970 and 1986 finals were played here, with Pele and Maradona each lifting the trophy on this pitch.
Located in the Coyoacan district of southern Mexico City at an altitude of 2,200 meters, the thin air has famously affected visiting teams for decades. Renovations add a new roof with solar panels, full LED exterior lighting, and replaced seating throughout.
